Big Boy’s Boot Camp

This is a light workout that will make your kiddos giggle. You’ll get a light all-body workout with these simple moves. I have 4 boys and this workout is aimed at one-on-one time with my toddler, James. (AKA ‘Big Boy’).

Workout

3 rounds of:

10 Thrusters (w/ kid)

10 Arm Circles Forward

10 Arm Circles Backward

10 Land Swimmers (left arm w/ right leg)

10 Land Swimmers (right arm w/ left leg)

Movement Tips

  • Kid Thrusters: Hold your toddler or baby under their armpits. Make sure you have a good grip. Start in a squat position and try to keep the upper part of your leg parallel to the ground. Using your legs standup and raise your arms & baby/toddler above your head then bring them back to the starting position.
  • Arm Circles: Swing your arms as if you are drawing a circle with your hands. These can be large or small depending on your workout zone.
  • Land Swimmers: Lay in the prone position looking forward and up. Raise one leg and the opposite arm. Hold for a 3 count. Then do the opposite side. My toddler can’t quite do the movement so I have him pretend to swim next to me and he thinks it’s a blast.

Dad Tips

  • I started all of my children with workouts when they were young. My tweens now see it as a fun activity and not something that’s a chore. I believe this attitude will help them stay fit throughout their lives.
  • Remember, every child is different. One of my boys doesn’t like traditional strength workouts, so I focus on yoga and movement with him.
